Rubber valve cover gasket

Use rags to catch old TV so it doesn't fall into the engine.Once the cover and joint surfaces are clean and dry, install the new RTV in the same location and install the new washer.Bonnet gaskets are used to seal "dry", so do not use sealant on the surface of the washer.

If you can see the top of the valve at the top of your running engine, you will see a lot of oil splashing around. The bonnet catches the oil and sends it back to the engine. But over time, the valve covers the gasket and contracts, stiffens and begins to leak oil.On a v-shaped engine, the leaking oil usually drips down the side of the engine (in your driveway) and turns to black sludge. But on a four-cylinder engine, it can leak into the spark plug and cause a fire.Replacing gaskets on v - type engines is a profession. But you can replace the washer with a four-cylinder engine.

Start with the decorative plastic cover on top of the engine (if equipped).Next, remove (and label) any hoses, cables and electrical connectors connected to the valve cover. Then remove the spark plugs.
If you see any oil pool in the spark plug, clean it up with a duster with a screwdriver.Take out as many guns as you can, then remove them, and if necessary, replace the spark plugs with a new spark plug before proceeding.Once the new plug is installed, remove the cover retaining bolt and note the length and position of each bolt. Then release the cover and lift it from the engine.
Peel off the old gasket and clean the cover with a brake cleaner and a clean rag.Next, clean the joint surface of the washer on the engine.Use a plastic putty knife (no metal) to cover any traces of the old RTV from the timing belt to the cylinder cover.Use rags to catch old TV so it doesn't fall into the engine.Once the cover and joint surfaces are clean and dry, install the new RTV in the same location and install the new washer (photo 2).The bonnet seal gasket is designed to be sealed and dry, so the seal USES sealant on the gasket surface.
In your workshop manual, complete the work by fastening the valve cover bolts to the torque specification. Please keep in mind that the bonnet bolt specifications are usually shown in pounds per pound.Instead of feet per pound.Inches per pound.Feet per pound. So let's just divide it by 12.
Reinstall all cables, hoses, ignition assemblies and electrical connectors and ignite them.
